Cardiology Clearance!

Mila had a cardiology appointment today for an echo and checkup to make sure the fluid around her heart is not coming back.  The great news is that there is no fluid around her heart!!! Her pulmonary hypertension is even lower than our last visit, but still present. I had hoped she could be med free after today's appointment, but her liver is still mildly enlarged and just to be safe the cardiologist wants to keep her on the lasix (probably for 6 more months...boo). But she can stop the Ibuprofen...so we're closer to being med free! Mila has gained 2 pounds since our last visit 3 weeks ago!!

We are cleared from cardiology for SIX MONTHS!!!! This both excited me and scared the hell out of me! The good thing about having so many cardiology appointments was that it was pretty reassuring to know the echos were scheduled and I could "see" her heart and hear from the experts that all was okay. If I had worries that something was up or if she was fussier than normal, I always reassured myself that we had an upcoming appointment to see how her heart was doing. I'm pretty confident that we know what signs to look for and we'd probably realize what was happening much sooner this time (from experience), but the thought of no more cardiology appointments and no more echos for six months scares me a little. I tried checking on amazon for an echocardiogram machine but they were just a tad out of our price range. ;)

Zoya was thrilled to hear the good news!

  4. I can totally relate. My youngest daughter spent 7 weeks in the NICU as a newborn. She had a daily xray of her chest, echos every other day and her own nurse. When she "graduated" from the NICU to the regular floor she had to share a nurse with three other littles and NO XRAYS OR ECHOS! I also asked the nurses if there was anyway we could get a home xray machine :) Nope. It is very scary to be solely responsible but the nurses reassured me that as mom I'd know if something wasn't quite right. Trust your instincts and trust your docs, they wouldn't send you home for 6 months w/out a check-up unless they were completely comfortable with her health. Prayers and love!!

Sarah, try some camomile tea instead for echocardiogram machine - it really helps (mostly for mommy!) :)

  8. Way to go Mila! That is awesome news her little heart is doing so well. I can understand your worry though, I know I'd be the same way. I'll say a prayer that her and Miss Zoya just continue on with their leaps and bounds growing they have been doing and keep you so busy you don't have time to worry. ;)

  11. Wonderful! Such great news.
I have a son who is watched by a cardio doctor too. We only go in once a year now. I remember how thrilled and scared I was the first time I heard that news, so I can relate to how you feel. It's been so great to watch Mila blossom.

  15. You won't need the machine. I'm pretty sure you have a cardiology degree by now. It's great to hear she got a good report.

  16. Just looking at Mila (and Zoya!) makes me want to adopt; I already have 2 sons, the older of whom has D.S., Autism and Celiac. I can't bear the thought of having to leave him for the amount of time it takes to get a child. :-( I know, I'm a major wimp!!

  17. Totally hear you on being excited and freaked out. It gets better, trust me. :) I was super excited not to have to see our cardio for a year after Claire's last appt.

  19. Oh, that is such good news!!

I can relate to the scared feeling when they tell you "Come back in 6 months!" instead of 1 or 3 months. They just told that to us in December with our son. I was thinking, "What? No, wait. You need to keep checking him at least every 3 months!" They must feel that it is safe, though. Ped. Cardiologists seem like a pretty conservative group.

    Enjoy your "Cadbury Egg"!! :)
